Who listens to fire alarms?
You know, the fire alarm just went off in our building and the only action that was taken was that my manager closed her office door so it wouldn’t disturb her phone call.
It’s truly scary that the safety alarm is seen as nothing more than an irritation and the procedures for keeping people alive is deliberately ignored in order to get on with work.
I can’t remember the last time I was in a safety drill (it must have been back in school) and I wouldn’t know where to go other than “The hell away from here†in case of an emergency.
I think South Africa is pretty safe from terrorist threats but fire, structural damages and other building calamities do happen (not to mention violent striking and other protest actions) and I don’t think the average cubical worker really knows what to do.
Yes, safety drills are boring and could mess with your work but can your manager justly get upset because you want to follow safety procedures?
