Dev Days 2006

You know, you get a very different experience when you attend these large events as a speaker or a sponsor. For one, you generally don’t get to go to all the sessions and two, you don’t qualify for any of the prizes. On the flip side the lunches are a lot nicer (and you can chow in peace) and you’ve got greater access to the speakers (for if you’ve got a primed question on one of the day’s topics).

Developer Days 2006 is the first Microsoft event for developers this year and probably the last until TechEd. The two tracks on offer were Security and an overview of the new WinFX technologies and from the feedback I got, both were excellent.

I was part of the team manning the SA Developer stand and we had a community competition, giving away a copy of Visual Studio Team System for Developers with MSDN Premium. I’ll post the code after the Cape Town event, so as not to spoil the surprise for those guys.

I did take my camera along and you can check out my photos in the gallery.

What was really cool, and I want people in Cape Town to take note, is that InterSoft (one of the Dev Days sponsors) are selling IT books at a discount at the event! I picked up Programming Visual C# 2005: The Language for only R350.00 so make sure to take a debit or credit card along with you.

So, overall, another good event (and break from the hum-drum of developer life) and it’s eye forwards to the WinFX launch, and of course, Windows Vista.
