WinFX Community DVD Release
So you’ve attended (or soon to attend if you’re in Cape Town) Dev Days 2006 and you got to see some of the exciting stuff coming out of Microsoft called WinFX. But now you’ve logged onto the website to download the stuff and you see it’s over 1GB!!! How are you going to get that now with your puny dialup and South Africa’s notoriously bad bandwidth?
Never fear, because for SA Developer I’ve downloaded all the SDK and extension installations, as well as some extra documentation like the Hands-on Labs and MSDN Nugget videos; which I’ll be making available for free to any member who want it.
I’ve also still got Hilton Giesenow up in Johannesburg and he’ll be taking some DVDs down with him to Cape Town. For Durban, I’ll pop some DVDs on Microsoft’s internal mail for Pieter Germishuys to distribute.
So just what is on the DVD?

Hopefully, I got everything and there’s nothing missing that’ll stop you from playing with WinFX. I tried to find Hands-on Labs for Windows Communication Foundation but all I found were some virtual labs.
DVDs will be available at SA Developer events (check out the website for details); alternatively drop me a mail or leave a comment and I’ll see how I can get a copy to you.
I’ll be rebuilding my test environment with all the latest downloads and I’ll blog about what steps I took and any issues I have. I see there’s probably some duplication around the WinFX Runtime Components so I’ll make a note to let you know what I installed and how I got things working.
P.S. Unfortunately due to some time confusions, I missed giving Hilton some DVDs for Cape Town; but I’ll give them to Ruari Plint to take since he’s also on tour for Dev Days 2006.
