A little bit of lifestyle is all you need

Software developers are funny people!

On the one extreme you have people with a strict adherence to the separation between Work time and Family time and one the other extreme you have other you have those who live, breathe and can talk about nothing else other than technology and projects.

Of course, a happy medium must be found because you’re not, generally, going to learn anything exciting and new during office hours but if you can’t talk and share on topics other than the latest beta coming from Microsoft, you become a very boring person.

Blogs are a great place to see what’s going on outside the IT sphere and 2 I want to share with you are Gavin Warrener’s Body for Life blog (sorry dude, but I have to!) and the second is Cooking For Engineers.

I came across Gavin’s blog when I was looking for bio information for an SA Developer talk and it’s inspiring because he’s uploading photos of his results which really are noticeable and it’s chalk full of his tips and advice. It’s a realistic view which overweight developers like myself can use. Well done dude!

The second (and in contradiction to the first blog) is a cooking blog which I found while looking for recipes because my regular fare was becoming quite boring. I haven’t explored the full recesses of this site but the title intrigued me. Most of the recipes are probably bad for you (Dark Chocolate Souffle, Chinese Almond Cookies and Pecan Coffee Cake) but I’m sure someone out there will thank me for it.

So create a new category in your RSS aggregator called Lifestyle and look out for things that’ll improve your standard of living.
