South African director for Halo movie
I couldn’t believe it! I was catching up on some reading on Gamasutra (probably the best source of news and info on the game development industry) when I came across an article naming Neill Blomkamp as the director of the upcoming Halo movie based on game. I knew it was coming for a long time (see my old post) but I didn’t think it would hit this close to home.
Neill Blomkamp did the amazing Alive in Joburg short film, which blended CGI graphics with “news report†like video footage to produce a well told, hard hitting story about immigrant treatment in South Africa.
I hope we’ll see a good story come out with Halo and Blomkamp considering past mixed success of converting games to screen and the inevitable churn of the Hollywood machine.
