Learning Starcraft again

Damn! I got hold of a copy of Starcraft and the expansion Broodwars to practice for the upcoming LAN at rAge but I’ve got a long way to go. I haven’t played Starcraft since before the events of 9/11 but I seem to remember being able to take on 2-3 computer players at once. Now, even with another player as an ally, I’m getting brutalized before I can even get a siege tank!

Now I know I’m not going to get very far playing against the kids who’ve been playing LAN games religiously day in and day out; but that doesn’t mean I have to suck. I also want to play against other people my caliber and provide some good competition. Personally, I think I can hold my own in a game of Call of Duty 2 or Unreal 2004 but I seriously see myself lacking in the RTS department.

My aim is to get a game of Starcraft in every evening leading up to rAge and at least 3 games on the weekend. I’m going to switch to the Protoss because I believe air superiority and I dig their carrier ships.

I definitely see this as my kind of competition, especially now that South Africans can get their national colours for cyber gaming and a Craig Nicholson has formed a clan which I’m keen to join (I just don’t have an Xbox yet).

“Battle Cruiser Operational!” Nothing beats a squad of Ghosts supported by Siege Tanks and Battle Cruisers. Ending in the classic “Nuclear Launch Detected”
