Game.Dev schedule for rAge 2006

Finally! With only a little time to let the word out Danny Day has posted the schedule for the game development talks and workshops happening at rAge 2006. You can monitor the questions and comments about the schedule on the Game.Dev forums and I’ve also added them below.

Friday

13:00 – 14:00 Game Maker workshop (Danny [...]

My first XNA Game Components

I can not begin to share my excitement at creating not one but two Game Components using XNA!

For my talk at rAge on Sunday I’ve only been given about 20 minutes to give my presentation, so I’ve decided to copy Mitch Walker’s presentation on Game Components from GameFest 2006 since it’s a pretty cool feature [...]

International Talk Like A Pirate Day

Avast me hearties, I hope you’re all practicing ya pirate banter for a course of chaos and confusion tomorrow in the workplace Arrrgh! It’s International Talk Like A Pirate Day tomorrow (19th September).

Apparently Gareth Cliff from 5FM also mentioned it and you can check out the website (focused on America).

24 Hours with Vista

On Saturday evening I installed Windows Vista Ultimate (July 2006 CTP, I can’t spare the bandwidth for RC1) and for someone who is easily wowed I have to admit I’m a little disappointed and I’m desperate to get back to Windows XP so that I can work again.

There aren’t even many good points to mention [...]

Body-for-Life: Week 3

BMI: 31.4
Body Fat: 26.0%
Weight: 101.6kg
Height: 180cm
Blood Pressure: 93/74 mmHg

Those are the stats I’m looking at after 3 weeks of Body-For-Life. It’s a pity I only figured out how to use the testing machines today (the rest of the time I’ve been into the gym it’s been too early in the morning and I’ve been [...]

More about XNA

I’ve been told I haven’t blogged anything in while(?) so I’d thought I’d tell you some more about my XNA experiences.

The game loop and graphic device initialization in MS GSE (Game Studio Express) really make a difference to game development in .NET but I have to admit I still feel like I’m basically writing a [...]

Body-for-Life: Week 2

This week was a lot harder than the first and I’ve already broken the good habits I was forming by attending a company social on Friday for some drinks and then attending my friend’s birthday on Saturday and drinking more (just forget about asking about Sunday!).

My weight is fluctuating like a sin graph but for [...]

Wasting no time with XNA sites

It’s really amazing how quickly content and information can become available on the internet! XNA Express has barely been out for a couple of weeks and already there are sites dedicated to the technology with tutorials, articles and demos:
www.XNADevelopment.com
www.LearnXNA.com
www.XNASpot.com
www.XNAInfo.com (Pieter Germishuys’ site which he’s busy building)
I’m fortunate to have been asked to give a [...]

A little info about IsNumeric

I got an interesting call from a friend yesterday that was in a bit of jam. Very simply, he wanted to check that value in a textbox was not a number and was using something like

If Not IsNumeric(Textbox1.Text) Then
…
End If

The funny thing though was that if he put “R1” into the textbox the expression [...]

NAG Game.Dev at rAge 2006

I promised I would wait until it was officially announced before blogging about the mini game developers conference (similarities to the real thing are strictly coincidental) the Game.Dev community is running at rAge 2006; although I have to confess that if you know me closely you should already have known this!

Check out the September 2006 [...]
