Leaving work in Pretoria
Way back when I said I was going to be working in Pretoria; well today is my last day on this project before I go on leave and then start a new project back at BB&D in Johannesburg.
It’s been an incredible experience working here at Khula Finance Enterprise Ltd, not just because the people and culture is so different, but because I’ve been with the project from initial framework design to implementation of the first module; and there’s a warm, satisfying feeling in seeing people enjoy using something you’ve written and saying how much better it is than their old one.
During my stay I’ve come to understand the importance of good core library/framework design (which I think we implemented rather well) and witnessed the pains of working with Office COM objects. The project’s been done in VB.NET, my native “tongue”, and as I leave here the Project Lead wants to write the next module in C#.
I’m going to miss the easy traffic to and from work as I was always against the normal flow and I’m going to miss the camaraderie of playing Prehysteria in the morning just before first coffee.
